TAKE A MENTAL VACATION BY SURFING CORONA.COM CORONA EXTRA'S NEW WEBSITE
Vacation-in-a-bottle beer offers mini-vacation in a website
San Francisco, June 10, 2002. Web enthusiasts looking to spend some time on the beach without leaving home (or the office) can surf Corona.com and escape to a website destination that's Miles Away From Ordinary.
The newly designed site offers visitors the same laid-back, fun, sun, tropical beach experience that Corona fans everywhere have come to know. Beginning June 10, visitors can do just about anything they would at a tropical beach from sightseeing, exploring, relaxing, or even testing their skills at flicking lime 'football' wedges between Corona bottle 'goal posts' (just like in the TV spot).
"Corona challenged us to deliver the Corona 'experience' on-line and we've created a highly-interactive website that offers sun, fun and a virtual beach," said Mark Silva, Principal and Founder of Real Branding, which developed the site. "Visitors start off on a beach setting and follow a path of their choice towards unique interactions. And as with a remote tropical beach, the longer you hang-out, the more 'get-away' you experience."
Extension of Corona's Image
The website is truly an extension of the brand's image, which is illustrated in Corona's unique TV campaign. And, similar to one of the brand's most memorable commercials, Corona.com surfers can eradicate annoying cell phones from the beach by tossing the ringing cell phone into the water.
Since a trip to the beach is even better with a boat, visitors can build one at the site. Surfers can complete a sliding puzzle, which challenges them to complete an animated picture of a boat by sliding tiles into place. In case the user would rather have a Corona than figure out the puzzle a 'relax' button solves the puzzle for you. All the activities are presented in an immersive environment of sound, character animations and tightly rendered settings.
Cool Technology
For interested techies, the website makes use of the latest technology and programming wizardry to create the experience, including geo-targeting, flash movies and tight integration with back-end programming. "In short, the technology employed on Corona.com ensures a rich, intuitive and customized internet experience that's clearly miles away from other sites," said Silva. "The website is created to be as rich as Corona's iconic advertising campaign yet easily accessible to a broad range of consumers, and it delivers."
Corona Extra, Corona Light, Pacifico, Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial beers are brewed and bottled by Grupo Modelo SA de CV in Mexico. The brands are imported and marketed in the eastern United States by The Gambrinus Company and by Barton Beers, Ltd. in the western US.
